French referee Stéphanie Frappart became the first female referee to officiate a men's match at a World Championship.

Frappart wrote history in world football when he refereed the Germany-Costa Rica challenge yesterday. In addition to the French, Salima Mukansanga from Rwanda and Yoshimi Yamashita from Japan also led the match.

According to the head of FIFA referees, Pierluigi Collina, there is talk of female referees directing in all matches, despite the attitude of Arab countries such as Qatar, Iran or Saudi Arabia for the participation of women in such competitions.

"They are here, not because they are women, but because they are FIFA football referees ," said Collina.

According to him, the engagement of female referees in the Germany-Costa Rica match in Qatar is proof that quality is valued and not gender.

Earlier, the French judge Frappart said "I am not tall. I'm not even as strong as some of my male colleagues."

Frappart was the first female referee to officiate the major UEFA Champions League football final between Chelsea and Liverpool.
