Triport with concession, the Vlora TPP also enters the "game"

Triport with concession, the Vlora TPP also enters the "game"

The Albanian Electric Power Corporation (KESH) announced a few months ago that it had managed to secure through a international tender a two-year contract for the lease of two vessels that will produce energy to meet the needs in the country.

But before these portable thermal assets are put into operation at the Port of Triport in Vlora it seems that some interventions will be needed to get the infrastructure ready. At stake in this context is the electrical substation located in the Vlora Power Plant and this asset under the auspices of KESH.

The Corporation has recently prepared a document known as a non-technical summary, which dwells on how these assets will be operated and their integration into the Albanian energy network.

"In order for the floating thermal generator plant to meet the needs of KESH and to be easily connected to the power transmission network using the interconnection infrastructure that KESH has in its possession, and infrastructural advantages, the location of the thermal generating plant will be positioned within the water basin. of the fishing port of Triport.

This will enable the proximate location of the proposed site with the existing TPP substation and further with the existing 220/110 kV Power Transmission Line substation (2 transformers 100 MVA each), located in the eastern part of Vlora.

This will require an additional minimum infrastructure for the placement of floating thermal assets and connection to the Vlora TPP for the transmission of electricity produced as well as proximity to the port infrastructure for fuel supply and the provision of sufficient water for the technological cooling process. "It is said in the document.

The document clarifies that in the inner part of the port (southeastern part of it) will be placed two ships where thermal power generators are installed (called Tiger 1 and Tiger 3) with a total capacity of 110 and will produce electricity in capacity of 110,000 kWe; 137 500 kVA, and power factor 0.8.

They are registered in Panama. Total production is expected to be not less than 100 MW. The modules will be connected to the existing network through a short overhead and underground transmission line of high voltage 220-kV (LTTL) to the substation of TEC Vlora and further to the existing electric transmission line that connects to the Babica Substation.

KESH clarifies that the thermal generator modules are equipped with a total of 19 Wartsila engines. They will burn for fuel 180 cts HFO, a distilled fuel called mazut / solar (HFO) for power generation and gasoil (LFO) for oil-based boilers to produce steam. The fuel will be discharged at the nearest hydrocarbon port called Petrolifera Italo-Albanese sh.a.

In them will be carried out the process of combustion and then the process of cooling through the system of seawater intake and discharge back into the sea. The waste of hydrocarbons and the combustion process will be collected in the ships and will be returned by means of a closed and isolated pipeline to be transported by autobots to the places of their final treatment in licensed entities ", the document states.
