Kurti accepts the European proposal: Basis for the normalization of relations

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said on Monday that he accepts the European proposal for the normalization of relations with Serbia, despite the concerns about the Western pressure to establish the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority.

He made these comments after a meeting with the European Union's special envoy for Kosovo-Serbia talks in Pristina, with whom, as he said, they exchanged ideas and proposals for reaching an agreement with Serbia.

"We accept the proposal of the European Union, as we have said before, as a good basis for further discussions, as a solid platform to move forward. Certain issues and questions have remained to be dealt with soon in the talks in Brussels and are related to the implementation mechanisms, international guarantees and time sequencing, what, how and when, therefore these have remained to be discussed in the meetings which will we have them in Brussels", he said.

Prime Minister Kurti said that Kosovo is interested in an agreement with Serbia, but according to him, this is not enough, as the readiness of the other side is also needed.

"But what I can say is that the democratic concepts of this proposal and the European orientation keep us strongly hopeful," he said.

The European Union's special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia talks, Miroslav Lajçak, said on Monday after the meeting with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, that all the agreements signed in Brussels must be implemented, including the Association of Serb-majority municipalities.

He said that he also discussed some conditions presented last week by Prime Minister Kurti that must be met for the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority.

"We have discussed this issue and I have informed the prime minister about our position, but I do not want to make public legal analyses. I think it was helpful that we had this discussion. Again, what I must repeat is that everything that was agreed upon in the dialogue must be implemented," he said.

Kur them të hapur, atë vërtetë e mendoj. Më kuptuat të gjithë”, shkroi ai por pa dhënë hollësi të tjera.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has hinted that he will accept the proposal, warning of the consequences that Serbia may have if it rejects it. Last week he reported to the Serbian parliament about the talks with Kosovo, emphasizing the consequences his country will face if it rejects the European proposal.

The United States and the European Union have made efforts to resume talks between Kosovo and Serbia for the normalization of relations between them in the light of a European proposal, which does not foresee mutual recognition, but the commitment of the parties that they will not hinder each other in the integration process./ VOA
