Elon Musk: 100 Starlinks devices already active in Iran

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk recently said the company is now close to having 100 Starlinks active in Iran (satellite internet service) three months after he tweeted he would activate the service there amid protests. Musk said:

We are close to 100 active Starlink devices in Iran.

The tech billionaire had said in September that it would activate Starlink in Iran as part of a US-backed effort to advance internet freedom and the free flow of information for Iranians. The satellite-based service could help Iranians circumvent government restrictions on internet access and some social media platforms amid nationwide protests.

The Islamic Republic has been engulfed in protests that erupted after the death in September of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody after she was arrested for "inappropriate clothing". Recently, experts have warned that technology billionaire Elon Musk's big plan to send even more satellites into space could cause a devastating collision with aircraft.

The richest man on Earth wants to send more than 40,000 Space X internet satellites into low Earth orbit. His Starlink service has permission to launch 12,000 but the firm filed paperwork for another 30,000 in 2019. SpaceX has over 3,000 satellites in the sky which have been a crucial tool for Ukrainian forces fighting Russia.
