Allegedly assaulting an autistic child, police launch investigation into

Cristiano Ronaldo is at the center of a Merseyside police investigation as a result of an incident at the end of Saturday's match against Everton, where his team lost 1-0. The Manchester United striker appeared to have dropped a mobile phone from the hand of a fan - who is allegedly autistic.

As the 37-year-old then apologized on Instagram and invited the fan to a game at Old Trafford, police are now calling for witnesses after a video of the incident was posted on social media as the Portuguese was heading towards the Goodison Park tunnel.

A Merseyside police spokesman said: "We can confirm that we are in contact with Manchester United and Everton FC following reports of an alleged attack on Everton's Manchester United football match at Goodison."

"While the players were leaving the field at 14:30, it was reported that a boy was attacked by one of the guest teams as they were leaving the field. Investigations are ongoing and officers are currently working with the Everton football club to review CCTV footage and are conducting extensive witness investigations to determine if a breach has occurred. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Merseyside Police Social Media Office via Twitter MerPolCC or the Merseyside Police Contact Center Facebook citing reference number 228 dated April 9, 2022.
