Deadly tornado hits two US states, killing 20

At least 20 people were killed in Kentucky and Missouri, two states in the central US, after tornadoes swept through, which also caused significant damage in the city of St. Louis. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced on his Twitter account that at least 14 people had died from the extreme weather last night, adding that "unfortunately, this number is expected to increase as we receive more information."

American media, such as NBC News and the Washington Post, report that at least 7 deaths have been recorded in the neighboring state of Missouri, many of them in the city of St. Louis.

"Our city is in mourning tonight. The loss of life and the destruction are truly shocking ," Mayor Kara Spencer told reporters last night.
