Nesho: The summit is not the first in a country outside the EU, Rama is manipulating opinion

Diplomat Agim Nesho commented on the development of the European Political Community Summit being held in Tirana, describing it as a repeated event and politically used by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

"First of all, this is a recurring summit, so that all participating countries in the European Political Community have the opportunity to hold such a summit. It is an ongoing process," Nesho said.

He rejected the government's claims that this is the first summit in a non-EU country, recalling the 2023 edition in Moldova.

"Mr. Rama's propaganda always insists that this is the first time in a country that is not a member of the European Union. This is not true, because in 2023 an even better-organized summit was held, which also produced a concrete result to help Moldova enable its hybrid war after the escalating conflict between Ukraine and Russia," he said.

According to him, Rama is using this summit as a means of political gain, having reached a consensus to hold it in Albania.

"He is known to be a great host, but the expenses are staggering. The official lunch alone, the hostess who prepares the menu and presents it to the participants, costs $250 – more than a pensioner's one-month pension," said Nesho.

The diplomat also criticized the way the reception was conceived and carried out, considering it a personal spectacle for the prime minister.

"A summit was held in the form of Rama's idea. There was a very big difference, the entire reception was a spectacle that only Rama can realize, as a master of ceremonies. I have said before that he is the best majordomo of EU receptions, he does not spare and is unbridled in his imagination," he said.

Next, Nesho called Rama's gesture of bowing before Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni inappropriate.

"He made an unpleasant show by bowing down to Meloni, considering that in that position he is a representative of Albania and not an adventurous person who can behave as he pleases. When he is a representative of our country, he must maintain his dignity," he stressed.

According to him, Rama's speech at the summit was also out of character for this event.

"He behaved as he behaves with Albanians who have fallen into trouble, and he behaves like the father of the nation. He tried to make a speech like the Pope of Rome, far from the spirit of these summits," Nesho declared.

He continued by emphasizing that Albania has turned into a "septic tank" to host prisoners and illegal immigrants who have arrived in Italy, helping Italian Prime Minister Meloni.

"This has whetted the appetite of all other countries," Nesho concluded.
