Albanian caught with 940 thousand euros at the border

An Albanian citizen has been placed under investigation by Montenegrin authorities, after allegedly attempting to smuggle into Albania an amount of 940,000 euros earned from illegal drug trafficking activity.

The Special Prosecution Office of Montenegro has announced that the citizen with the initials TM had transported the hidden money in a freight vehicle from Austria to Albania, via Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro. According to authorities, the final destination of the considerable amount was a still unknown person in Albania.

The amount of money was discovered during a detailed check at the border crossing between Montenegro and Albania, in Božaj. The operation was carried out in accordance with an order from the Special State Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation between the Customs Administration and the Special Police Department of the Police Administration.

As part of the investigation, the prosecution has proposed the extension of the detention measure for the suspect as well as the final seizure of the amount of money seized and the vehicle used to transport it.

The case is being treated as an important operation to crack down on criminal networks that profit from drug trafficking and the channeling of illegal profits to other countries. Investigations are ongoing to identify the accomplices and the possible criminal network behind this activity.
