CEC limits observer accreditation for diaspora votes

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has made an important decision regarding the electoral process for the Assembly of Albania, which was held on May 11, 2025. Through an official decision, the cancellation of accreditation for all observers at the External Vote Counting Station (EVC) has been announced, with the exception of international observers.

According to the decision, each electoral entity is entitled to have only one observer for each counting group, as well as one observer for each district. Civil society organizations wishing to observe the process must resubmit their application for accreditation through the Observer Portal, no later than 24:00 on May 16, 2025. Any application submitted outside this deadline will not be considered by the CEC.

Against this decision, interested parties may file an appeal with the Complaints and Sanctions Commission within three days from the date of its receipt. This decision aims to increase the transparency and integrity of the vote counting process, by limiting access to non-accredited observers and strengthening the role of international observers and registered entities.
