In the first 3 months of 2025, the country's population has undergone natural contraction, as more deaths than births were recorded with a negative balance of 883 people.

According to INSTAT data, the number of births has marked a significant decrease of 14.1% compared to the same period last year.

The Tirana region continues to have the highest number of births with 1,750 registered in the first quarter. On the other hand, Gjirokastra continues to have the lowest number of births with only 76 babies, continuing the trend of last year, when there were only 336 births in total for the entire year 2024.

During 2024, a total of 23,310 babies were born and 22,102 deaths were recorded, with a difference of 1,208 more births than deaths.
