The Korça Court has found young Dritson Kurti guilty of the criminal offense of sexual intercourse with a minor, but has placed him on probation for a period of 5 years.

The prosecution has requested that Kurti be found guilty, requesting 7 years in prison, which, in the application of the summary trial, goes to 4.8 years. It was the prosecution that asked the court to suspend the execution of the prison sentence and place Kurti on probation for a period of 5 years.

The court accepted the Prosecution's request, assigning Kurti probation for 5 years. Lawyer Enea Cenko states that Kurti's case will become a cause for a legal initiative to exclude the Roma community from this criminal offense, as it contradicts international conventions.

Dritson Kurti was arrested in September last year after the 13-year-old girl he was living with gave birth to a child at the Korça Maternity Hospital.

The case caused strong public reactions, due to the girl's age and the circumstances surrounding the cohabitation.

During the investigation, Kurti tried to justify the relationship with the underage girl by basing it on the "tradition" of the Roma community, while the prosecution insisted that it was an illegal relationship, demanding punishment.
