The costs of corruption, Albania the champion in the Balkans for road construction costs, last for quality!

The costs of corruption, Albania the champion in the Balkans for road

With an average of 12.9 million euros per kilometer, Albania is the champion in the region in terms of road construction costs, while every year Albania invests about 400 million euros in road infrastructure.
These inflated road costs apparently have a hidden fee, which is corruption, since although Albania spends more than the countries in the region on roads, it has the poorest quality roads among the Balkan countries.
The latest OECD report, despite these high figures invested in what are called golden roads, our country ranks last in the Western Balkans for the quality and functionality of infrastructure.
The report emphasizes that Albania has the weakest indicators for rail transport, a sector almost out of function and use.
Roads in rural areas are in a deplorable state, where the lack of good connections prevents local development.
On the one hand, the government promotes Albania as a European tourist destination and boasts of the increase in the number of visitors, but on the other hand, it offers them neither safe roads, nor functional public transport, nor railways, nor digitalization, significantly affecting the visitor experience and the development of tourism.
The OECD warns that the lack of efficient road and railway connections harms economic integration and limits the country's competitiveness in relation to its neighbors who have advanced with strategic investments.
Albania has announced the objective of being part of the European Union by 2030.
The OECD clearly states that without serious and properly managed investments in transport and infrastructure, Albania has no chance of developing economically, integrating into European markets or fulfilling the announced objective of EU membership.
When a country spends more than everyone else and remains last in the ranking, we are not dealing with a lack of money, but with abuse of public funds. Civic Resistance
