Has the young man affected by monkeypox infected others in Albania? IHP

For the first time in Albania, a person infected with monkeypox was confirmed a few days ago.

The infectious viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus has been diagnosed in a young man in his thirties.

The Institute of Public Health explained to Politiko.al that the patient has now fully recovered.

"The patient's condition is now very good and there are no other remaining signs ," the IHP statement said.

The IHP also emphasizes that the disease was imported from Italy.

" The case was discovered after suspicion by the infectious disease doctor and was confirmed at the IHP laboratory in Tirana," the IHP emphasizes.

Asked whether the case posed a risk of infecting others in our country, the IHP denies such a fact.

"No, because he was isolated and his isolation was monitored by the IHP ," the latter emphasizes to Politiko.al.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms of this disease are fever, body aches, swollen lymph nodes, redness, and pimples that turn into blisters with crusts.

They usually appear on the hands, face, and genitals. Monkeypox is spread by direct contact with infected people, such as skin-to-skin contact or sexual intercourse. But a person can also become infected by contact with contaminated objects, such as sheets, towels, or clothing.

Monkeypox is a disease of Africa as the virus circulates in wild animals. In 2022 this disease spread to Europe and the USA and the United Kingdom. S. Gjidede/ Politiko.al
