Journalist Klodiana Lala has provided details on SPAK's investigations into a minister.

Invited to the MCN, she said that SPAK made a mistake in the announcement regarding the term "minister", as according to her it was referring to former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj.

But in the meantime, Lala said that the Tirana Prosecution Office has confirmed that Minister Arbjan Mazniku is a person under investigation on charges of abuse of office and violation of equality in tenders, and this file has been transferred to the jurisdiction of the Special Prosecution Office.

"He testified on April 28 for 4 hours at the Tirana Prosecutor's Office and the case concerns a report by Belind Këlliçi on "Xhon Belushi" street in Tirana, before the 2023 local elections, when he was running for mayor against Erion Veliaj.

The “Xhon Belushi” street was paved by Tirana municipality employees, at a time when the tender was still open and no winning company had been announced. One day after Këlliçi’s denunciation, the fictitious tender with a limited fund of 471 million lek was canceled. The Democratic Party reported Erion Veliaj and Arbjan Mazniku, who at that time was the deputy mayor of the municipality, but also in the capacity of the contracting authority, to the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office.

"There is a slip in the announcement that a minister is being investigated. SPAK has a book on transparency. The case that has been made public concerns Mr. Ahmetaj. At the time the investigation began, he was in the capacity of minister. There are current persons or ministers who are under investigation, but they are not made public. Ahmetaj has held several positions. There are current ministers who are under investigation ," Lala said.
