Bylykbashi: Current electoral system is toxic

The opposition, which calls the results of the May 11 elections a farce, insists on changing the electoral system to restore the coalition with a composite list.

"Today we have an electoral system of Edi Rama and Damian Gjiknuri that massacres the vote of Albanians, the opposition and small parties, killing political pluralism. It will not be enough to regulate the rules for gender quotas, party financing, counting, etc., if we do not definitely change this electoral system."

"This electoral system is flawed, it cannot be fixed, it is toxic for pluralism and political parties and for voters. It must be abolished immediately,"  said the deputy leader of the Democratic Party, Oerd Bylykbashi, on TV Klan.

In a situation where the opposition accuses the majority of controlling all powers, from the President to the judiciary, what system can ensure fair representation in parliament?

" We need to sit down in a comprehensive manner to discuss it, but not what Rama conveyed through his representative in the dialogue group, that we will not change the system. What you have taken, we will not give back, " says Bylykbashi.

But Democrats are not satisfied with electoral reform alone.

" The need is acute to carry out at least the electoral reform, closely linked to the territorial administrative reform. We have a law that has been filed in parliament for almost three years by the Democratic Party in the drafting of a map with 96 municipalities out of the 61 that exist today. It is in parliament. It has been lying there for three years,"  the democrat emphasizes.

The Democratic Party has called for the elections to be invalidated by not recognizing the results of May 11, while also preparing a report on what it considers a farce to present to the international community.
