Who were the four Iranian generals killed in the Israeli attack?

Israel has claimed that airstrikes carried out on June 13 killed four senior Iranian military generals, including three from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the country's most powerful military force.

According to Israeli authorities, these unprecedented attacks targeted Iran's nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories and military commanders, with the aim of preventing Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.

Below are the details of the four generals who were reportedly killed:

Major General Hossein Salami has been commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary Guards since 2019.

He had been under international sanctions since 2006, as "a person involved in Iran's ballistic missile program," according to a United Nations Security Council resolution.

Salami was also on the sanctions lists of the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Australia and Japan.

Major General Mohammad Baqeri has been the Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces since 2016, and officially the second most powerful figure in the military, after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He rose through the ranks of the Revolutionary Guard, which dominates the highest structures of the Iranian military, and controls planning, operations, intelligence, covert and irregular operations, as well as internal security.

The Revolutionary Guard has been declared a terrorist organization by the United States.

Major General Gholam Ali Rashid was the deputy commander-in-chief of Iran's armed forces and was considered one of the most respected military figures in the country.

Since 2015, he led the central headquarters of Khatam-ol-Anbia, the highest operational unit of the Iranian military.

Since 2016, this headquarters has been separated from the General Staff, and has assumed operational command and control.

Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh was commander of the Revolutionary Guards Air Force since 2009.

Under US sanctions since 2019, Hajizadeh was a key figure in Iran's missile and drone program, and played a central role in recent operations against Israel.

He became an internationally recognized face when he went live on television to admit that the Revolutionary Guard had mistakenly shot down Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 in January 2020, blaming "human error."/ REL
