Ukraine-Russia war, Von der Leyen from Tirana: We must put more pressure on

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, present at the Summit taking place in Tirana, has called for intensifying pressure on Russia, in order to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine.

"We demand an unconditional ceasefire. Ukraine, with the support of the European Union and the United States, is ready for peace. But the fact that President Zelensky was ready to meet and on the other hand there was no reaction from the Kremlin, clearly shows that Putin does not want peace," Von der Leyen declared.

She emphasized that the European Union is preparing a new sanctions package, which will focus on Russia's energy sector and maritime mobility:

"We will stop the movement of some Russian fleet ships and affect the transportation of oil. We need constant pressure until a ceasefire is reached."

Von der Leyen said that in the face of Putin's inflexible stance, transatlantic cooperation remains essential and the EU is determined to stand by Ukraine.
