Elections 2025/ Around 50 thousand envelopes pending, vote counting in Greece

There are about 50 thousand votes that arrived in envelopes from Greece that were set aside by the CEC after being contested by the DP, which will begin to be counted today.

On the other hand, the counting of votes from other countries has been completed. 246 thousand Albanians living abroad registered in the CEC's online system to vote in the parliamentary elections on May 11. But of these, 194 thousand emigrants expressed their verdict by returning the envelope with the vote to the CEC.

About 20,000 envelopes never arrived at their destination, while the rest of the diaspora representatives did not deign to return the envelope.

Yesterday, the Electoral College made the decision to dismiss the Democratic Party's lawsuit, which sought the annulment of the decision of the State Administration Commission (KAS).

The DP had opposed allowing the counting of the diaspora votes from Greece, considering this a violation of procedures. The head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, accepted the DP's complaint and ordered the suspension of the counting of the Greek votes, which were separated from the other envelopes.

Meanwhile, the KAS overturned Celibashi's order and decided to accept the counting of these votes as part of the electoral process.

The Electoral College, after reviewing the request, has deemed the DP's request invalid, thus confirming the validity of Greece's vote count.

Yesterday evening, the Democratic Party sent to the Complaints and Sanctions Commission the decision of Ilirjan Celibashi, who ordered the continuation and completion of the counting of all electoral documentation received from abroad. This also includes envelopes received from Greece.
