Ambassador Arvizu takes up the important task at Georgetown University

The Institute for the Study of Diplomacy and the Board of Advisors has announced in a press release the appointment of Ambassador (retired) Alexander A. Arvizu as the new Director of the Global Public Service Program Donald F. McHenry, part of Georgetown University.

The director of the Institute, Barbara Bodine, has expressed satisfaction that Arvizu has been elected as the director of the McHenry Program, an ideal successor to the work of Ambassador James I. Gadsden over the past three years. The announcement says:

With his extensive regional and thematic experiences at high levels of policy-making as a Foreign Service career member, and the enthusiastic mentoring of future foreign affairs leaders over the years, Ambassador Arvizu will inspire graduate students of the program. and will take the program beyond its launch phase towards its full potential.

Ambassador Jim Gadsden, the program's inaugural director, notes that Ambassador Arvizu brings to the program extensive experience in senior foreign policy leadership from his service as US Ambassador to Albania, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics Affairs and Law Enforcement, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassies in Bangkok and Phnom Penh, and Director of the National Security Council for Southeast Asian Affairs.
