Anti-drug operation in Belgium, Italian-Albanian gang destroyed

Last March, as part of an investigation launched by the Liège prosecutor's office targeting an Italian-Albanian criminal organization active in the production and sale of narcotics, police dismantled a cannabis plantation with around 700 plants.

In this process, one person was arrested and placed under arrest warrant. According to various elements of the investigation, the organization appeared to be active in the resale of narcotics (cocaine and cannabis) in the metropolitan area of Liège where several places of interest were also located.

As a result, the PJF Liège, with the support of the federal police dog support service, the Liège Coordination and Support Directorate and the Liège police area, executed 16 search warrants issued by investigating judge Jean-Marc Mottet in the Liège region.

“More than 80 police officers were involved in this operation,” confirmed Rosalie Heinen, spokeswoman for the Liège public prosecutor’s office. “The various searches led to the discovery and seizure of around 20,000 euros in cash, 150 grams of cocaine, precision scales, a gun, 9mm ammunition, smartphones and other computer equipment, SIM cards and two cars used for drug trafficking.”

Among the various people arrested in the targeted locations, six suspects were taken into custody. Two of them were placed under arrest warrants and one was charged but released on bail.
