Trump participates in the first electoral rally after the assassination

Donald Trump will hold his first public rally since the failed assassination attempt on him in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Trump is scheduled to address a crowd in Grand Rapids, Michigan at around 5pm on Saturday. It's one of several campaign stops the former president has made in the key battleground state, as polls show him in a tight race against President Joe Biden.

The rally follows the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Trump formally accepted his party's presidential nomination and gave his first public speech since his assassination attempt.

Biden, meanwhile, has had to stop campaign events after testing positive for COVID-19. He continues to resist growing calls from members of his own party to drop out of the race because of concerns about his age and cognitive abilities.

Trump has largely remained silent on the drama rocking the Democratic Party, focusing on attacks on Mr. Biden's administration in a speech he gave at the Republican convention.
