Zelensky: At least 500 Ukrainian children killed in the war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Russia's war, now in its 16th month, has left at least 500 Ukrainian children dead.

Zelensky made these statements after the operation to remove the body of a two-year-old girl from the ruins, who died on Saturday in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, as a result of Russian attacks.

The Ukrainian president has said through a statement that, "Russian weapons and hatred, which continues to take and destroy the lives of Ukrainian children every day", has killed hundreds of children since the start of the war on February 24, 2022.

"Most of them could become famous scientists, artists, sports champions, or contribute to Ukrainian history," he said.

Zelensky has said it is impossible to know the exact number of children who have died, due to the ongoing conflict and the fact that some Ukrainian territories are now under Russian occupation.

"We must hold on and win this war!" said the Ukrainian president. "All Ukraine, all people, all children, must be freed from this Russian horror."

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions. As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes./ REL
