Ajola Xoxa appears in SPAK

Ajola Xoxa, the wife of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, appeared this Thursday at the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) in implementation of the "compulsory appearance" measure.

According to the decision of Judge Erjon Bani, Xoxa will have to appear at SPAK on the first and third Friday of each month at 11:00. Initially, Xoxa was assigned the measure of “house arrest”, but after three days, the Special Court of First Instance eased this measure due to her young son, while her husband, Erion Veliaj, is in prison.

Ajola Xoxa is accused by SPAK of "Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials" and "Laundering of proceeds of crime" as well as "Refusal to declare assets".

Investigations have revealed that she and Erion Veliaj created a scheme to benefit through bribes from companies and organizations controlled by them. According to SPAK, they benefited from around 1.1 million euros in nine cases.

Xoxa is also accused of spending around 800 thousand euros on online purchases, which were not declared in the annual returns.
