Germany lowers the price of public transport, in Albania the same and without standards. How much do the citizens benefit from the Kelliç plan?
Public transport is one of the main problems that Albania has encountered in recent years, where the prices of tickets and subscriptions have increased, while the standards of urban residents are as bad as they come. We often see the government saying that these prices are also in other countries. But how true is this?
Germany has recently passed the law of a monthly subscription that will cost only 49 euros . This will include all types of transport such as trams, metros, buses and people are "rushing" to buy these.
The ticket is very convenient for those traveling in or around the city, but for trips on longer routes, it can take a long time to get from one place to another because you have to travel by regional trains.
Meanwhile, in our country, the subscription prices are the same and the biggest problem is that they do not apply to all bus lines. For example, citizens must be equipped with a Kamza subscription to avoid paying for the trip, as other subscriptions for this line are not valid and as a result they are forced to pay again.
Belind Kelliçi had said that his plan for free public transportation will cost only 6.8% of the budget and relieves the citizens of Tirana of 52,000 lek per month.
"The main goal of my program was to reduce the cost of living for citizens. We have designed a program that has solutions for citizens' problems, such as transportation. I have said the free bus, for which the money will be found from the money that goes to the incinerator of Tirana. We help 200,000 citizens a day and it costs only 6.8% of the budget, this measure relieves them with 52,000 lek per month", declared Kelliçi.
Considering that Germany is a country with very high standards and one of the best infrastructures in terms of public transport, the price of 49 euros is quite affordable. Let's not forget that it applies to all types of public transport.
While Albania ranks as one of the poorest countries in the region, the price of transport is high due to unfavorable conditions such as bus delays, no air conditioning and long waiting lines to buy a season ticket.
