Crime app "Matrix", Lala; Albanian language among the most used

Journalist Klodiana Lala spoke about the "Matrix" platform, designed by criminals for use in the underworld.

Dismantled by Europol, so far, encrypted messages exchanged by users of the platform, which also included the Albanian language, have been deciphered.

Invited to MCN TV, Lala said that according to official information from Europol, the Albanian language is among the most used.

"I made an official request to Europol. They responded within ten minutes. They confirmed that Albanian is among the languages used. The case is being handled by French and Dutch authorities. Matrix has only been tapped in the last three months. Data that can be considered legal has been copied, only in the last three months.

It was first discovered by Dutch authorities in 2021. A Dutch journalist was killed and several people were arrested. This application was discovered on the phone of one of the arrested, but it was encrypted. It took cooperation with the French and the Europol task force to decrypt the application. The legitimate data has only been collected in the last three months.

It also depends on the stance the court will take. In recent months, there have been 2.3 million messages.

There is a difference with SKY which has been intercepted since day zero and are considered legitimate as clues leading to evidence. Meanwhile, Matrix, it is the duty of the authorities. There is still no investigative process related to Matrix.

This is a complex program, more complex than SKY. It took more time to decode. There is a considerable fee, 400 euros per month. Almost 3500 euros per year for the subscription. So it is used by people with financial means. The platform that was built, very complex, has captured 40 servers. What the authorities' stance will be remains to be seen.

I also communicated by email with Eurojust, which says it has supported the French and Dutch authorities, but does not provide details.

"Here we talk about conspiracy theories and it's media abuse ," said Lala.
