Greeks: "Albanese" has Hellenic roots. The Prime Minister of Australia "rejects" their claims

Greeks: "Albanese" has Hellenic roots. The Prime Minister of Australia

The surname of the new Prime Minister of Australia has caused a lot of "noise". The chances for him to have an Albanian origin are very high. And while his election caused a lot of reactions in the country, claims were also raised by the Greeks.

The latter say that Anthony Albanese, whose surname in Italian means Albanian, has Greek roots.

"Although all Australians know Anthony Albanese for his Italian and Irish roots, not many know that his ancestral homeland in southern Italy has ancient Greek origins," write the Greek media.

It is said that "Albanese" was a name given in Italy to someone from Albania or from one of the Albanian settlements in Abruzzo, Puglia, Campania and Sicily, known as the Arbëresh community.

As for the origin, Anthony Albanese did not talk much because he knew gold very late. His parents had had a love affair, but his mother had denied him the existence of the father until a late age.

In an interview, when the journalist asked Anthony Albanese, if he should call her "Allbaniz" or "Albanese", he answered with humor: "Albi calls me". This answer seems to further strengthen the possibilities of Albanian origin.
