The Durrës Court has ordered the security measure "house arrest" for the former lawyer of the Durrës Cadastre, Mikel Zaho, who is accused of abuse of office in collaboration with four other officials. According to the investigations, they are suspected of alienating an area of 151 thousand square meters of land in the Spitalla area.

Zaho had been wanted since April 2024, after the Durrës Court had imposed the security measure "prison arrest" on him in absentia, at the request of the Prosecutor's Office. The investigations, launched in 2019, revealed a scheme for illegal property acquisition, while the case returned to attention in February last year after a citizen's denunciation.

The complaint was related to the occupation of his property, still under legal proceedings in the High Court, by two entities, one of which claimed to have purchased the land from another company. The scandal has once again raised the alarm about the abuse of public property and the role of responsible institutions in its alienation.
