Conflict with 2 injured in Saranda, prison for 2 police officers, 6 others

The hearings for determining security measures against the 8 suspected perpetrators of the stabbing and attempted murder of Enea and Albion Nexhipi on January 2 in Gjashtë, Saranda, began at noon on Sunday and lasted for over 5 hours.

The Saranda Court has ordered the security measure "arrest with imprisonment" for two police officers, Alvaro Sulejmani, an officer at the Himara Police Station, and Ilkid Sulejmani, an officer of the Saranda Border Police.

Meanwhile, for the other 6 people involved, including a police officer and a student of the Police Academy, the court set the security measure "compulsory appearance". The charges against them, each according to personal responsibility, were "intentional minor injury", "threat", "obstruction of a public order police officer", "destruction of property" and "attempted intentional murder". Only the police officer, Alvaro Sulejmani, 36, is accused of the latter offense.

Alvaro Sulejmani has stated that he had previous acquaintances with the victims and that he apologizes for what happened.

The violent conflict is suspected to have started over a dispute over a rental car. During the investigation, 6 bullet casings were found at the scene, confirming the use of weapons in the clash between the parties. Security camera footage and testimonies were used as key evidence for the court's decision.

Two other people are still being sought in connection with the incident, including a former officer of the Saranda Police Station.
