Tensions renew in the north of Kosovo, the police throw tear gas, increased

Numerous forces of the peacekeeping mission of NATO and KFOR have increased their presence in three municipalities in the north of Kosovo: Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq.

As reported, groups of Serbian citizens gathered in front of the municipality building in Leposaviq to oppose the takeover of the local government by the new mayor, Lulzim Hetemi.

The Kosovo police fired tear gas to disperse the citizens, after KFOR let them gather in front of the municipality building in Zveçan.

A metal fence has been placed in Zveçan, blocking the road leading to the municipality building.

The chairman of the Serbian List, Goran Rakiq, has requested on behalf of the Serbian citizens that the new mayor of the municipality of Zveçan, Ilir Peci, does not enter the building. Likewise, Rakiq requested from KFOR that the Kosovo Police withdraw the special units from the area.
