KFOR issues a statement on the situation in Kosovo: Belgrade and Pristina should

The peacekeeping mission of KFOR in Kosovo has issued a statement to the media regarding the tense situation in the north of Kosovo.

KFOR calls on the parties not to incite tensions as it adds that they will continue to be ready to create a safe and free environment for the movement of all Serbian communities.

"This morning, the NATO-led KFOR mission has increased its presence in the four municipalities of northern Kosovo, following recent developments in the area. The purpose of KFOR's presence is to ensure a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo, in accordance with its mandate from United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999. We call on to all parties to refrain from actions that may incite tensions or cause escalation" , KFOR informs.

Likewise, KFOR asks Pristina and Belgrade to adhere to the dialogue they are developing under the leadership of the European Union.

"KFOR asks Belgrade and Pristina to engage in EU-led dialogue to reduce tensions as the only path to peace and normalization. We call on all parties to refrain from actions that could fuel tensions or cause escalation. In accordance with its mandate, KFOR is ready to undertake all necessary actions to ensure a safe environment in a neutral and impartial manner. The KFOR Commander remains in close contact with his main interlocutors, including representatives of Security Institutions and Organizations in Kosovo, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Serbia, as well as the EU-led Mission for Governance of Law (EULEX) and other representatives of the international community", the statement said.
