Kosovo receives the support of Sweden for EU and NATO membership

The member of the Swedish parliament, Helena Bouveng, and the Swedish ambassador in Pristina, Jonas Westerlund, confirmed that Kosovo will have the support of Sweden in its process to join the most powerful military alliance in the world.

With changing circumstances only a few months after the start of the war in Ukraine, Sweden decided to join the most powerful military alliance in the world, NATO.

The member of the Swedish parliament, Helena Bouveng, said that Kosovo has something to learn from Sweden to become part of NATO.

Bouveng, who is also part of the Parliamentary Commission for Defense, declared that Kosovo will have the support of Sweden in this process.

"The Russian invasion of Ukraine had a great impact on Europe. As a result of this war, Sweden also changed its attitudes. We saw that in these challenging times we cannot stand alone, so we decided to make changes. Sweden's membership in NATO was necessary, so we joined the alliance together with Finland. Kosovo can learn important lessons from our and Finland's membership in NATO structures. Sweden seriously supports Kosovo to become a partner in the EU and NATO, but there is still a lot of work to be done" , said Bouveng for Tëvë1.

The Swedish ambassador in Pristina, Jonas Westerlund, also has some recommendations for Kosovo on the way to the North-Atlantic alliance.

"Sweden made an extraordinary turnaround to become a member of NATO. We haven't been at war since 1814, which is a very long time. Thus, the whole mentality of Swedish society had to change. We applied to join NATO, just three months after the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Now we are slowly building up our armed forces and contributing to the defense of Ukraine. Some of the recommendations for Kosovo is to participate in peacekeeping operations within NATO. It is important not only to focus on your armed forces, but also on your civil defense capabilities ," said Westerlund.

Sweden joined NATO on March 7 of this year, expanding the alliance to 32 member states.
