Chris Rock could be the presenter of "Oscars 2023" after the slap

Comedian Chris Rock could host the Oscars next year in a triumphant comeback after being hit in the face by winning actor Will Smith.

He promised that next year 's show, scheduled for March 12, 2023, would be' even better 'than last year.

Will Smith has been banned from attending the ceremony for 10 years after he attacked Rock at the March awards show for a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.

Smith, who resigned from the Academy, won the Oscar for "The Best Actor" for his portrayal of Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams.

Some praised Smith's defense of his wife, while others insisted he should be stripped of his award.

The network chairman said he was sorry for the violence this evening, but said otherwise it was a successful show.

"My assessment of the Oscars was that it was a really successful year for the show. "Obviously there was a lot of controversy, which overshadowed a lot of positive things about the show, but I was really happy with the program," he said.

"Even before that very unfortunate moment, the show started year after year and we came back in a big way."
