Matt Demon for turning down role in 'Avatar': Biggest stupidity in

Matt Damon called turning down a key role in 2009's Avatar the 'biggest stupid thing an actor has ever done in the history of acting'. The 52-year-old, speaking to Entertainment Tonight while filming a new Stella Artois campaign featuring Avatar's Zoe Saldana, regretted his decision to turn down the record-breaking film. The star reportedly pocketed an estimated $250 million to play Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, in James Cameron's film opposite Saldana's character, Neytiri. The star of "Good Will Hunting", "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Departed" replied jokingly:

"Do you know what kind of movie it would have been if I had been in it?"

Damon then praised Saldana, 44, for her involvement in multiple blockbusters that have grossed more than $2 billion, including "Avatar" and its 2022 sequel, "Avatar: The Way of Water", "Avengers: Endgame" and "Avengers: Infinity War". The actor then added:

"I've probably done 50 movies. I've never been in a movie that made $1 billion."

Cameron said in an interview late last year that he has tried to console Damon for the career blunder, which would have earned the actor 10 percent of the film's profits. Damon told British GQ in October 2019 that turning down the lucrative role was one of the 'biggest regrets' of his career. He revealed at the time:

"Cameron offered me Avatar. And when he offered me, he says, 'Now, listen. I don't need anybody. I don't need a name actor. If you don't get this, I'm going to find an unknown actor. and I'll give it to him, because the movie doesn't need you. But if you get the part, I'll give you 10 percent."
