Highlights from King Charles III's coronation concert

It was a royal night to remember: A grand coronation concert was staged in the grounds of Windsor Castle, capping off a day of street parties and community lunch events across the UK on Sunday in celebration of King Charles III. A roar erupted from the flag-waving crowd of 20,000 as the newly crowned King and Queen took their seats in the royal box to watch a star-studded ensemble.

It was an enthusiastic, patriotic display that will be a highlight of the bank holiday weekend celebrations in honor of the artist formerly known as Prince, said presenter and "Downton Abbey" star Hugh Bonneville. Here's a look back at all the best bits:

The Prince of Wales paid a heartfelt tribute to his father during the celebrations, saying:

"Lord, we are all so proud of you. The coronation is a statement of our hopes for the future. I know she is up there watching over us lovingly and she would be a very proud mother."

Energetic cheers erupted as Prince William took the stage. He opened his speech on a humorous note, promising the crowd that unlike concert performer Lionel Richie, he wouldn't "keep going all night". William said he wanted to say a few words about why he thought the weekend's celebrations were important, recalling what his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II said when she was crowned.

Several members of the royal family lit up throughout the concert. They could be seen dancing to the tunes from their seats with Union Jack flags in their hands. But it was when Richie took to the stage, wearing a silver sequin jacket, to perform his hits "Easy Like Sunday Morning" and "All Night Long" that brought the audience and King himself to their feet. Richie later joined Sunday's broadcast of "American Idol" via video link, telling host Ryan Seacrest and their fellow judges:

"What a party! It was incredible. I just wanted to check how long you will be using this room?"

Charles joked before thanking her and co-star Katy Perry for their performances.
