Spotify will no longer be available in Russia

Spotify services in Russia will end on Monday. The company closed its offices in Russia in early March and restricted access to shows operated by media affiliated with the Russian state.

She had kept her services available, citing the importance of the "global flow of information". But after the passage of a sweeping "fake news" law threatening imprisonment for spreading "false information" about Russian forces, Spotify announced its decision to suspend it altogether.

"Unfortunately, recently enacted legislation that further restricts access to information, eliminates free expression and criminalizes certain types of news, endangers the safety of Spotify employees and possibly our listeners," he said.

These laws prompted the BBC, CNN, and other international news organizations to temporarily suspend their reporting from Russia for fear of journalists and their employees.
