Albanian Parties in Southern Serbia Sign Agreement on Joint Appearance on the

Representatives of five parties and movements of Albanians from three municipalities from southern Serbia (Presevo, Bujanovac, and Medvedja) signed an agreement on joint appearance at the upcoming Parliamentary elections in Serbia in Tirana, Belgrade-based electronic media reported on Friday.

The agreement was signed by representatives of Party for Democratic Action, Alternative for Change, Democratic Party, Reform Movement DPA and Democratic Progress Movement, who would be on a list called Albanian Democratic Alternative – United Valley.

The agreement was not signed by the strongest party of Albanians from southern Serbia – Party for Democratic Activity, led by Saip Kamberi. He said that this party, as before, would boycott elections in Serbia.

The agreement was signed with the goal to secure greater representation and strengthen the position of Albanians from southern Serbia, it was announced.

At the signing of the agreement on Thursday, the acting Albanian Minister for European and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj, who praised the fact that the agreement was reached.

He said that the Albanian government would not hesitate to support to joint list, because it would have an irreplaceable function in starting a wide scope of question Albanians from southern Serbia were facing, regarding education, free usage of national symbols and higher representation in state institutions.

Thaci hails signing of the agreement 

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci hailed the signing of the agreement on the formation of a joint election list of Albanians.

He emphasized that this would be an important asset for political progress and protection of national interests.

Thaci thanked Albanian Minister Cakaj for supporting this process.
