DP reacts to arrest of own officials: Rama is trying to provoke fratricide

The Democratic Party (DP) reacted on Friday and over the weekend to the arrests of DP officials and supporters from Elbasan and Librazhd, in the wake of a protest held on Thursday afternoon at the entrance of Librazhd, where the DP supporters tried to block the passage of the Prime Minister’s motorcade.

DP Chair Lulzim Basha described the arrests on Friday as “a political retaliation worthy of a repressive regime”. The DP Chair, according to newspapers, was particularly incensed by a court ruling issued over the weekend to confirm the arrest of four DP officials, the leaders of the DP branches in Librazhd and Përrenjas and two DP supporters.

He said that Rama was panicking over wide people’s protests seeking the ousting of his government. According to him, this had driven Rama to pursue a dangerous plan aimed at provoking social divisions and clashes in the country. Rama is trying to provoke mass violence and clashes between the Albanian citizens, Basha said, accusing the latter of also trying to instigate fratricide among the Albanian people.

He said that Rama was allegedly using the State Police and Prosecution to achieve his goals and that this was the reason why he was continuing what Basha described as an unlawful campaign for un-decreed local elections. Basha warned the corrupt police, prosecutors, and judges that are obeying Rama’s orders at present that they would duly face the weight of the law once the Rama government is ousted.
