Dy ditë zie kombëtare në nderim të Ismail Kadaresë,

Today and tomorrow have been declared days of national mourning in honor of the genius of Albanian letters, Ismail Kadarene, who passed away yesterday morning.

Prime Minister Edi Rama has signed the decision stating that in all state and public institutions the national flag should be lowered to half-mast.

The decision states that the public tributes and the state ceremony will be organized in the premises of the National Theater of Opera, Ballet and People's Ensemble, Tirana, on Wednesday, 3.7.2024, respectively, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It is also announced that at 13:00, on 3.7.2024, in his honor, all activities should be stopped and a minute of silence should be observed and that the Albanian Radiotelevision, during the hours of the tributes and the state ceremony, should broadcast funeral music .

Ismail Kadare, who closed his eyes forever yesterday morning at the age of 88, is considered one of the greatest contemporary writers, where he stands out mainly for prose, but his contribution also extends to dramaturgy, poetry and translations. Until today, his works have been translated into about 45 different languages, thus being the main representative of Albanian literature around the world. Kadare has been nominated 15 times for the Nobel Prize in Literature, while he has been honored with several national and international awards. Kadare is considered by some to be one of the greatest writers and intellectuals of the 20th and 21st centuries, and a universal voice against totalitarianism.
