Accused of treason, the Russian scientist is sentenced to 14 years in prison

A court in St. Petersburg has sentenced Russian physicist Anatoly Maslov to 14 years in prison after he was found guilty of treason. Previously, prosecutors had requested that the Russian scientist be sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Maslov, 77, is an expert in the field of liquefied gases and a professor at the Department of Aerohydrodynamics at Novosibirsk Technical University. He was arrested in 2022 on suspicion of passing classified information to a foreign country.

Maslov has denied the charges. He is among three scientists from the same institute, all three hypersonics specialists, who were arrested in 2022 on charges of treason. The other two scientists, Alexander Shiplyuk and Valery Zvegintsev, are still awaiting trial.
