Moments of panic were noted on Thursday afternoon at the "Aleksandra" hospital, during a surgical intervention to remove a tumor in a 72-year-old patient. The incident happened after a sudden defect in one of the medical equipment caused flames in the operating room, causing the woman second-degree burns in several areas of the body.


According to the official announcement from Region 1 Health, the incident happened towards the end of the operation, and the medical team reacted immediately to bring the situation under control and treat the patient.


After the initial assessment of the burns by the plastic surgeon, the patient woke up in a stable condition and was transferred to the recovery room where she is being monitored by medical teams of gynecological, plastic and anesthesiological specialties.


The administration of the First Medical Department has launched an administrative investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and has immediately requested the complete file of the equipment used during the intervention.
