EU ready to double military aid to Ukraine, Von der Leyen: Russia is preparing

The European Union is ready to double its military aid to Ukraine this year as Russia prepares for a future confrontation with European democracies, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said during a speech at the Royal Danish Military Academy in Copenhagen.

Von der Leyen stressed that Moscow has significantly expanded its military-industrial capacity, using this as a means to support the war against Ukraine and prepare for a possible conflict with the West.

The EC President also spoke about the new EU defense strategy, confirming that control over armed forces will remain in the hands of member states, despite efforts for a joint European commitment.

Meanwhile, an EU document cited by Reuters suggests that military aid to Ukraine could reach 40 billion euros this year, doubling the support provided last year. This assistance will depend on Ukraine's needs and the commitment of member states to confront Russian aggression.
