Bombardments in Gaza / Israel reacts for the first time: We had no other choice

A series of attacks rocked the Gaza Strip, marking the resumption of bombardment by the Israeli military against Hamas targets.

Israel has reacted for the first time after the breakdown of the ceasefire in Gaza with Hamas, stating that they had no other choice.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Oren Marmorstein said Israel launched attacks on Gaza because Hamas repeatedly rejected proposals to extend the ceasefire and release the hostages.

“From this point forward, Israel will act against Hamas with increasing military intensity,” he says.

Marmorstein says they previously said yes to concrete proposals to extend the ceasefire, but Hamas said no, so with no other choice they launched attacks on Gaza.

Asked if the ceasefire talks are "dead" because of these attacks, he says the ceasefire ended two and a half weeks ago.

Negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, which would see the release of nearly 60 remaining prisoners and the establishment of a permanent ceasefire, have ended without a concrete agreement due to Israel's insistence that the first phase be extended until mid-April.
