Donald Trump nominates Patel to lead FBI, calls for radical transformation of law enforcement agencies
US President-elect Donald Trump has tapped a former aide, Kash Patel, to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation, an agency that Patel has often criticized.
The former chief of staff of the US defense department in the first Trump administration, Patel has been a staunch supporter of the Republican president.
The selection is consistent with Trump's view that the government's law enforcement and intelligence agencies require a radical transformation and his stated desire for retribution against perceived adversaries.
For Patel to take the job, current FBI Director Christopher Wray would have to resign or be fired in January when Donald Trump takes office.
Patel "played a key role in uncovering Russia's fraud, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability and the Constitution," Trump wrote Saturday night in a social media post.
