Germany is expected to send air defense systems to Ukraine, NATO: We do not prevent it
The German government has confirmed it is in talks with allies after Poland asked for Patriot air defense units to be sent to Ukraine.
Berlin had initially offered the defense system to NATO member Poland to secure its airspace after a stray missile killed two people near the border with Ukraine last week.
But Poland rejected the offer, saying it would be better if they were sent to Ukraine.
"We are talking to our allies about how to handle Poland's suggestion," a German government spokesman said.
The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg signaled that the alliance would not prevent Germany from taking such a step, saying that it is a decision made by the states themselves.
