After Rhodes, Corfu also issues an evacuation order

Corfu has become the latest Greek island to issue an evacuation order as Greece grapples with forest fires.

In some photos published on social networks, the island was seen engulfed in flames.

The order on this island comes after about 19,000 people have been evacuated from the other Greek island of Rhodes, which has also been affected by fires.

Many people have been forced to flee their hotels as fires continue to spread from the center of the Greek island.

In recent days, Greece has recorded temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius, and as a result, fires have spread in some areas.

The Greek presidency has said that the plan to declare Monday a national holiday has now been cancelled, as a result of the "extraordinary conditions in the country, due to the fires".

Corfu - located in the Ionian Sea, in the northwest of Greece - is a destination visited by many tourists, mainly British ones.
