Medvedev-US: Take nuclear warnings seriously to avoid World War III
Moscow has warned the US that it must take Russia's nuclear warnings seriously to avoid World War III.
Dmitry Medvedev, vice chairman of Russia's security council and who served as the country's president from 2008 to 2012, warned the US on Saturday that it was "wrong" to believe "that the Russians will never cross a line of certain", writes Skynews.
He told Russian state broadcaster RT that Moscow believed the current US and European political institutions lacked the "far-sightedness and subtlety of mind" displayed by the late Henry Kissinger.
Russia has signaled to the West for weeks that Moscow will retaliate if the US and its allies help Ukraine launch longer-range missiles deep into Russia.
It is not the first time that Mr. Medvedev warns of a serious escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.
In September, he threatened that Ukraine's incursion into the Russian territory of Kursk had given Russia formal grounds to use nuclear weapons.
