Doctors Without Borders suspends operations in Russia

The aid organization Doctors Without Borders announced that it has been forced to suspend its operations in Russia.

"We regretfully have to stop our activities in Russia," the Switzerland-based organization said.

"Our work is guided by the principles of independence, impartiality and neutrality, as well as medical ethics. We offer help based on needs ," she added.

Doctors Without Borders has been in Russia since 1992. But they said they were notified by Russia's Ministry of Justice in August that their office had been removed from the non-governmental organization register. During the activity in this country, they have been active in the regions of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Chechnya, Ingushetia, Dagestan and others.

They are focused on the treatment and prevention of tuberculosis, HIV and other infectious diseases, as well as working with vulnerable groups, including immigrants. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Doctors Without Borders has provided medical and humanitarian aid to refugees from Ukraine, as well as to Russians who have moved from border areas to safer regions of Russia./ REL
