The former president of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano, has died at the age of 98
Giorgio Napolitano, the former president of Italy, died at the age of 98.
Napolitano passed away at a clinic in Gianicolo in Rome, where he had been hospitalized for some time.
By his side in his final moments were his family, especially son Giulio and his wife Clio, 89, as well as historical communications advisor Gianni Matteoli.
On 21 May 2022, Napolitano underwent abdominal surgery and was hospitalized for nine days at Spallanzani Hospital in Rome.
He was the first president of the Republic of Italy to be elected twice.
