Can the US control the power plants? Zelenskyy is categorical: They belong to

"Nuclear power plants belong to the people of Ukraine," Zelenskyy says - despite US talks about American ownership.

This statement comes after Donald Trump's administration suggested that the US could take over the running of Ukraine's nuclear power plants as a form of security guarantee, following the Trump-Zelenskyy call this week.

"American ownership of these power plants would be the best protection for that infrastructure and support for Ukraine's energy infrastructure."

"All nuclear power plants belong to the people of Ukraine," Zelenskyy says.

"These are state-owned nuclear power plants, they are not private property in Ukraine."

Zelenskyy is defiant in his response to whether the US can control the power plants, stating that he told Trump that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant will not operate unless it is under Ukrainian control, Skynews writes.

"If the Americans want to take the station from the Russians and want to invest there and modernize it, that's a completely different matter," he says.

"We are open to discussing it, but we definitely have not discussed the property issue with President Trump."
