Israeli army kills senior Hamas official in Gaza

The Israeli military announced it had killed a Hamas operative, Izz al-Din Kassab, whom it described as one of the remaining senior members of the Palestinian group responsible for coordinating with other groups in the Gaza Strip.

Kassab was killed in an airstrike in Khan Yunis, while the Palestinian organization confirmed his death, adding that he was killed along with another Hamas official, Ayman Ayies, during an Israeli attack on their vehicle.

Sources close to Hamas told Reuters that Kassab was a local official in Gaza but was not part of the organization's decision-making political office.
